behavior within the order

The Code

Tenebrae Surgunt uses a modified version of the "There is no emotion" Jedi Code. The High Council is aware that there are many Jedi Codes out there and that experienced Jedi may have been exposed to others that they like. However, the code that we use here is the code you will be held to in terms of conduct. If you are found in violation of our code while here, there will be consequences. Any other code may also be followed, but it must be followed in addition to TS' code.

Control emotion to bring peace.
Gain knowledge to overcome ignorance.
Temper passion to gain serenity.
Death is not the end of life.

How the code applies to the behavior of...

Prospective Students

Prospective students are not officially part of the Order, but that does not mean our code of conduct does not apply to them. While they are here, they must be respectful of the rules of the Order. What they do on their own time is their business but while posting on this forum our rules must be obeyed. For prospective students that means being open-minded and respectful to everyone here.

Students and Padawans

Students here at TS are not expected to have perfect behavior. They are after all, just learning. Students will be corrected when they are deviating from the Code, and only if the Student must be repeatedly told to stop doing a certain thing will punishments be assigned. The point is that it is okay to make mistakes if you are a student, but you must learn from them. Padawans carry the same rank as Students, so this applies to them as well. The only difference is that Padawans are being trained by a Knight, while a Student is awaiting that opportunity.

Jedi Knights

Jedi Knights have been through Padawan training and therefore are expected to obey the Jedi Code at all times . Knights are teachers here at TS so there is a zero tolerance policy for bad behavior. Knights must understand that every word they speak, every action they take is teaching. This is a great responsibility and the High Council does not take it lightly, so neither should Knights.

Kindred Ambassadors and Envoys

Any jedi that steps foot into TS' halls is required to be respectful. They are required to display the principles of their order in a respectful and reserved manner. There is no flaunting of your Order's concepts or any displays of "superiority" allowed. Kindred Ambassadors are allowed to answer questions from students about their Order and its ideals but only where appropriate. Envoys are not awarded this privilege and therefore must abstain from answering questions from students. Answering those questions may constitute an act of trying to steal students and is punishable by banning. However, they must still answer Knights if they are asked about their Order.

The Trials

Just like in the movies, there is only one set of Trials here. The Trials are given to a Padawan whom their Master and the High Council agree is ready for Knighthood. Jedi Knight is currently the highest rank in this Order, so it is not to be taken lightly. The Trials will be long and vigorous. They will test knowledge, ethics, wisdom, and many other things as well. They will be given to the Padawan by a High Council member. There is a written component, a Force component, and an interview. Only if all three components are passed can the Padawan be granted the rank of Jedi Knight.

A testing Padawan can have members of Knight rank "sit in" on their interview and Force testing sessions. This may include the Padawan's Master, and other Knights the Padawan wishes to have present. The written component must be completed by the Padawan on his own. No Knight is authorized to help a Padawan with the test while the Padawan is completing the written component.

Cheating Policy

Cheating on the written exam will incur harsh punishments, if not a ban from the Order. Cheating is not tolerated in any form. Knights may only tell lower ranks the nature of the questions on the written component, they are not allowed to give out specific questions on the Trials or the answers. Any Knight found to be doing this is subject to demotion and possibly suspension or banning. Padawans found to be cheating on the written portion of the Trials will be automatically failed. More punishments will be given on a case by case basis concerning the extent and intent of the cheating.

Rank and Punishment

Only Jedi Knights are allowed to give out punishments. The severest punishments must come from the High Council. It does not take a majority of High Council votes to punish a member (except in the case of a banning or a suspension lasting longer than 30 days), but it does to over-rule the punishment given by one of the High Council members. This means that any member of the High Council may suspend any member for up to 30 days without speaking to the other members about it. However, the High Council member must inform the punished member (in a way that the member can view while undergoing punishment) of the exact duration of the punishment and the reasons for it. The High Council must make a majority decision on a punishment more severe than a 30 day suspension.

Privileges and Points

Tenebrae Surgunt wishes to recognize and reward students who come onto the site and make meaningful posts. You will be awarded 5 Jedi Points for every post you make that is over 20 words. Yes, 20 words seems like a lot at first, but once you get used to having to put thought into your posts, you will be amazed at how much farther you think before you post, and how much more meaningful your posts are.

Points can be exchanged at the TS Points Exchange. To get to it, you click the "Shop" Icon in the bar just below the forum logo. There you will be able to see the various items and privileges for sale. There will not be useless things like "lightsabers" and "x-wing fighters" for sale there. The High Council will only include items that are an actual reward, instead of pretend bragging rights.

Since the shop is still in test form, there is no way for me to keep students and other members from violating the rules for signatures. As the Order grows it will be hard to keep track. However, violate these rules AT YOUR OWN RISK. If I do find you using a privilege without the item corresponding to it, you will be fined, warned, or suspended. Cheating makes the whole system not work, and as Jedi, we should have more "honor" than that for the most part.

List of Privileges that currently NEED to be bought:

- Images that are not dogtags in user signatures

- Videos in user signatures

- All three types of dogtags in signatures

- Custom member titles

Any member with ideas for what else the Order could offer should post it in the suggestion box.
